Heavy hung the canopy of blue
Shade my eyes and I can see you
White is the light that shines through the dress that you wore
She lay in the shadow of the wave
Hazy were the visions of her playing
Sunlight on her eyes but moonshine beat her blind everytime
Green is the colour of her kind
Quickness of the eye deceives the mind
Roger Waters, Green is the Colour, 1969
Step into the garden, step into another world. An enchanted woodland, an intimate space of contemplation. The garden, a landscape condensed, inspired by the magical and endless woodlands and forests of eastern canada.
The design challenge? How to distill the essence of a wider landscape impression into a small garden in order to create a private place of escape, reflection and reverie. The fairies are awaiting us at the end of the garden path.
Designed to respond to common stipulations of small domestic gardens requiring screening, privacy, low-maintenance. A structural timber feature frames, shades and shelters. Shades of green but no lawn to mow. Fastigiate evergreen coniferous trees screen enclose and set the scene, an alternative to the thuya hedge. A play of light and shade, green is the colour. Texture and depths of layered foliage are combined, contrasted, mirrored.
